We’ve got some live jazz standards, popular songs and showtunes from the Great American Songbook brought to us by local musicians Eva Fox & The Jazz Guys. Eva performs regularly with jazz legends Alan Law and Paul Grainger, so we’re bound to be treated to a top quality performance. This gig will be completely free to enjoy and we’ll have the Jar on the Bar out for cash donations. Doors open at 6pm, live music from 8pm


Fri 5th:
Live tonight, in a change to our previously advertised performance due to an unforeseen cancellation, we are delighted to be joined by classically trained singer Carmen Silk, a phenomenal local vocalist who will be treating us to an evening of Classics With Carmen. Delivering an intimate mix of jazz, swing, blues and showtunes, Carmen will take inspiration from artists such as Liza Minelli, Billie Holiday, Peggy Lee and much more. This show is completely free to enjoy and we’ll have the old Jar on the Bar out for your generous cash donations. Live music from 8pm.


Sat 6th:
Live this Saturday night, we’ve got some chilled jazz for you all performed by London based guitarist Tom Remon and local guitarist Laurence Harrison. Serving up some jazz standards and original works on dual guitars, these two talented musicians will provide the perfect backdrop to your Saturday night drinking here at Prohibition. This gig will be completely free to enjoy and we’ll get our Jar on the Bar out for your generous cash donations. Doors open at 6pm, live music at 8pm.

Sat 6th: (Upper Venue) Local drag superstar Phoebe LaReine presents the latest edition of her fantastic show Chanter. Come along this Saturday evening or a night of live vocals and fabulous entertainment with singer-songwriter and rising star Sophie Gordon, the out of this world Saturn Addict and drag icon Gladys Duffy. Tickets are pay what you can and there will be a tip jar on the evening; you won’t want to miss out on this one! Book your place right here. Doors open at 7pm with the show kicking off at 7:30pm.

It’s  our monthly Classic Cinema Club, a FREE afternoon classic film on the first Sunday of every month. Doors open at 2pm, film starts 3pm. Popcorn, ice cream, teas, coffees and snacks all available as well as our usual well stocked bar. Showing this month: Sunset Boulevard – I’m ready for my closeup! First come, first served so be sure to arrive in good time for a good view of the screen!

Sun 7th: This Sunday evening we’ve got a light hearted, fun-filled live music session in line for you all as we present Brendan Rowley & Friends. We’ll be treated to an evening of musical delights from one half of the alternative rock/folk band The Cash Cows: expect original songs, quirky covers, jokes and a real good time. This gig will be completely free to enter and we’ll get the ol’ Jar on the bar out for cash donations. Doors open on the night at 6pm with the live music kicking off at 7pm.

Thu 11th:
This Thursday evening we have a fantastic gig in store for you all as UK based traditional country singer-songwriter Ags Connolly. Ags has developed a big following in the UK, USA, The Netherlands, Sweden and more and now he’s touring the country celebrating the launch of his fourth studio album, Siempre. The album keeps his trademark honky-tonk sound but merges it with Tejano music and barroom waltzes and has been widely acclaimed since it’s release last year. We’re absolutely delighted Ags is making a stop off here at Prohibition and we know it’ll be a great show. Entry will be completely free and we’ll have our Jar on the Bar out for cash donations. Doors open at 6pm and the gig starts at 8pm

Come on down this Saturday night for some authentic roots music from The Rockin’ Turner Brothers. Brothers Stuart and Peter Turner perform early country, Western swing and a bit of 50s rockabilly, taking their influences from guitar pickers like  like Chet Atkins, Merle Travis, Jimmy Bryant, Grady Martin and Scotty Moore. Performing on upright double bass and semi acoustic electric guitar, these two always put on a show that’s not to be missed. Enjoy the gig free of charge, just come along and grab a space, and if you like what you hear (you will) you can show your appreciation by dropping some cash in the Jar on the Bar. Doors open at 6pm, live music from 8pm.

Sat 13th: (Upper Venue) Live in our upstairs venue this Saturday night we are delighted to welcome back a fantastic young musical outfit: Phantom Bagman. Phantom Bagman are an Indie-Jazz band based in the Northeast. What started as a group of friends from university has spread into an assembly of like-minded music lovers. Fusing elements of indie-rock, bedroom pop and modern jazz aesthetics, Phantom Bagman create a sound unique to the roster of people involved, and the city that has brought them together. They’ll be accompanied by The Forgetmenots, a fresh and upcoming local girl duo from North East England. Influenced by sounds of the 60s and 80-90s alternative-indie bands. Sun 14th:
Live jazz standards from some of the North East’s finest musicians; Alan Law, Jude Murphy and Tim Johnston performing as a trio known as Leeway. With Alan on piano, Jude on double bass and Tim on drums, this smooth, well practiced trio will treat us all to some classics and standards from the history of jazz. This gig will be completely free to enjoy and we’ll get our Jar on the Bar out for your generous cash donations. Doors open at 6pm, live music from 7pm.

Sun 14th: (Upper Venue) Oh lordy, it’s the return of Drag Castle, a phenomenal local drag troupe of singers, dancer, comedians and all round entertainers. The fantastic gang at Drag Castle are putting on a special event here at Prohibition: The Galactic Disco – a Star Wars, Star Trek and Doctor Who fusion cabaret show! In celebration of the Sci-Fi convention happening in the North East this weekend, the Galactic Disco will be a 2 hour science fiction cabaret extravaganza – dressing up is thoroughly encouraged. Come alone or with a partner and learn from expert tutor Melissa Davy all about the art of blues dancing. Like the music itself, blues dancing is all about expression and takin’ it easy. All experience levels welcome and the class is drop in, drop out, so don’t ever worry if you’ve not been to one before, you will be well looked after. The class will begin at 7:30pm and run for approximately an hour. If it’s your first session then its free to take part and then thereafter it’s £7.50 per class (£5 for students/concessions)

Live this evening at Prohibition Cabaret Bar our resident jazz pianist Merlin Roxby will be taking his place at the keys and treating our guests to a jazzy, saloon style performance. Playing vintage piano versions of well known songs, Merlin will provide the perfect backdrop to anyone enjoying a drink in our establishment this evening. This live entertainment is completely free to enjoy and we’ll have the jar on the bar out for any cash donations, all of which go straight to Merlin. Doors open at 6pm, live performance from 8pm.

Thu 18th: (Upper Venue) Tonight at Prohibition Cabaret Bar! Our upstairs venue is playing host to the monthly networking event Together I’m Possible. Each month the team at Together arrange for two guest speakers to come along and share their stories, past experiences and unique outlooks on life allowing audience members to see things from a new perspective and learn something – be it a new positive attitude, an answer to something specific they’ve been looking for or simply how to be a better human. Tickets are sold on a “pay as you feel” donation basis. The doors to the bar open at 6pm and upstairs is open from 6.30pm. The first speaker is on from 7pm.


Fri 19th:
Roll up, roll up, it’s our monthly Burlesque night presented by the award winning Trixie Blue. If you’re a fan of exhilarating, enticing dance and art then the incredible, talent fuelled performances delivered at each month’s Burlesque show is for you. This month it’s The Vaudeville Vault starring The Sapphire Whiskers, a phenomenal troupe of local burlesque dancers. This event is “tickets only”; Tickets will be just £3+bf and will go on sale at exactly 10:30am on Saturday 16th March – links to ticket sales will be available on the House of Trixie Blue Facebook page (linked above). Doors on the night open at 7pm, with the show starting at 8pm.

Fri 19th: (Upper Venue) This Friday we’re delighted to bring you our monthly blues dance class and social with Hoodoo Blues. This is an open to all experience levels blues dancing class with a highly accomplished teacher. As with blues dancing itself the class is all about taking it easy, enjoying and expressing yourself and friendly socialising. After the class has finished the evening will transition smoothly into a blues dancing social event to put into practice what you’ve learnt. Doors open at 7pm with the class running from 7:30 to 8:30 and then the night continues until 12 midnight. Entry is £10 on the door for the class and the social or £5 for just the social.


Sat 20th:
This Saturday evening we’ve got some great North East folk and americana from acoustic outfit Meantime. Hailing from Edinburgh, this authentic musical group have performed all across the North East and Scotland and even at shows in London as well as some excellent performances here in our humble bar. The quartet return to treat audience members to some moving and soothing vocals, fiddle, guitar, double bass and drums in the form of their own written works as well as some interesting twists on classic tunes. This gig will be completely free to enjoy with a Jar on the Bar for cash donations. Doors open at 6pm, live music from 8pm.


Sun 21st:
This Sunday evening we’re delighted to welcome to our stage Latvian guitarist and composer Edgars Rubenis. Edgars’ acoustic guitar work engages with the early traditions of blues and ragtime resulting in bold and contemporary music. Containing 8 exciting instrumentals, Sea Unbound is his most recent record, the second from the upcoming trilogy Pains and Boogies. Since his 2020 shift to working with acoustic guitar, Rubenis’ music has been featured on London’s Resonance FM radio, in concerts along with the Welsh guitarist Gwenifer Raymond, Kadonnut Manner from Finland, and on various festivals and tours in France, Sweden, Belgium, The Netherlands and the Baltics. This gig will be completely free to enter and enjoy and we’ll get the ol’ Jar on the Bar out for cash donations. Doors open at 6pm, live music from 7pm.

Stuart takes inspiration from such artists as Chet Atkins, Merle Travis, Joni Mitchell, George Benson and many others and is a regular performer here at Prohibition, always treating our guests to a foot tapping, knee slapping good time. This gig will be completely free and we’ll have the ol’ Jar on the Bar out for cash donations. Doors on the night open at 6pm with the live music from 8pm

Fri 26th: (Upper Venue) Lion NCL events is back and this Friday night we’re being treated to a Madonna, Kylie and Britney disco night – celebrating the three queens of pop. The DJ will be spinning the hits from the trio of legendary musicians, so get your tickets and get ready for a drink and a dance. Tickets for this event are just £5+bf and are available here. Doors on the night open at 8pm.


Sat 27th:
This Saturday night we’re thrilled to host an eccentric jazz, funk and soul collaboration between some of the region’s best jazz talents, tentatively named Papa G’s Troves. Featuring Papa G and some of the region’s best jazz musicians performing on saxophone, trumpet, double bass, keys, drums and of course some soulful vocals. Expect some authentic jazz classics with a gospelly twinge. This gig will be completely free to enjoy and we’ll have the Jar on the Bar out for cash donations. Doors on the night open at 6pm with the live music from 8pm

Sat 27th: (Upper Venue) Club 30-80’s are back! Dust off your boogie shoes and get dancing to the music you want to hear. The guys at Club 30-80 put on a regular DJ disco night for those who still want to get out and dance, but would rather avoid the manic club scene. As usual we’ll be spinning tunes aplenty, spanning ages and genres all evening. Tickets are £7+bf and can be purchased here. The event on the night starts at 7pm continuing until 11pm.


Sun 28th: 2:30pm-6pm
Prohibition Cabaret Bar and House of Trixie Blue present Dr Sketchy’s Anti Art School! Come one, come all to the fantastic Prohibition Cabaret Bar for an afternoon of drawing, drinking and live entertainment from some of House of Trixie Blue’s student performers & performers based in the North East. But what is Dr Sketchy’s? Dr Sketchy’s Anti-Art School is the world’s premier alt. drawing movement. Artists draw glamorous underground performers in an atmosphere of boozy conviviality. Starring Miss Twilight Sparkle and Xena Rose. Tickets for the event are £6+bf and are available here. Doors open at 2:30pm, event starts at 3pm and goes on until 6pm. Please bring your own paper and pencils – limited resources available at the venue. Sun 28th: For us there’s no better way to finish the week off than with some accomplished, international live music, and this Sunday night we’re here to provide. It’s our pleasure to welcome from Oulu, Finland, acoustic guitar maestro Kadonnut Manner. Having performed a fantastig gig here last year we’re delighted to have Kadonnut Manner back again performing his signature style of fingerpicking, steel string guitar tunes of his own invention, so come on down for a captivating performance and enjoy a drink while you’re at it. This gig will be completely free and we’ll get the ol’ Jar on the bar out for cash donations, all of which going to the travelling performer. Coming to our fitting upstairs venue, get ready for a laid-back, inclusive and friendly night featuring a raft of creatives and… you? Just put your name down on the door to bag yourself 5 minutes to share your words on the mic in front of our lovely crowd (or just come and be part of that crowd and enjoy the performances!). This bank holiday weekend Sophie will delight us with a beautiful mix of covers from artists such as Stevie Wonder, Dusty Springfield, Whitney Houston, Dolly Parton, Gloria Gaynor and much more. Live this Saturday night our humble stage plays host to phenomenal Canadian vocalist Robyn Taylor in collaboration with esteemed musical theatre academic and practitioner Nick Butters on piano. Join them as they Fly you to the Moon and Over the Rainbow, celebrating classics from the American Songbook, vintage musicals, the Golden Age of Hollywood and more. Come on down, grab a drink and enjoy some Prohibition style, old fashioned live music. The gig will be completely free and we’ll have our Jar on the Bar out for cash donations. A DJ led disco night all about rockabilly, ska, punk, reggae, psychobilly and rock ‘n’ roll music. Grindhouse have been putting on club events all over the city for many years, including regular discos here at Prohibition so you know you’re in top hands. Entry for the night is £5 on the door which open at 8pm with the event running until midnight.

Close Enough Barbershop Quartet won Best Small Vocal Ensemble in 2022 and 2023 in Buxton for their ‘witty repartee’ and ‘vocal acrobatics’. The four gents land in Newcastle with their vocal shenanigans, performing an irreverent mix of close harmony arrangements and classic barbershop, spanning everything from Antonín Dvořák to Big Band swingtime! This gig will be completely free to enjoy and we’ll have our famous Jar on the Bar out for cash donations. Doors open at 6pm with the live performance from 7pm.

We’ve got a great deal of Prohibition style fun and entertainment in store for you this Friday night as we excitedly play host to Jenni Winter’s Sing Along Pian-Oke! Cabaret pianist Jenni Winter returns to the piano to tinkle the ivories while you, the people, will take to the stage and sing. In this monthly event, you’re invited to take your pick from our selection of songs (and even suggest a few for the next edition) grab a glass of Dutch courage and have fun on the Sapphire Stage with the mic in hand.  Entry is free and we’ll have our Jar on the Bar out for tips for our fantastic pianist. Doors open at 6pm with the fun kicking off at 8pm.

Vintage showgirl Hildy Harland will serenade and entertain you as you sit back and enjoy your elegant afternoon tea and drinks. Her cello-infused, lyrically soulful R’n’B has drawn comparisons to a “lovechild of Ed Sheeran and Alicia Keys”, captivating audiences across the UK. She has performed for Sir Paul McCartney, appeared in the critically acclaimed production of An Octoroon at The Abbey Theatre, Dublin (2022), has featured on tracks spun on Rinse FM, BBC 6 Music and 1Xtra, and continues to captivate audiences across the UK appearing at venues such as Liverpool’s Tung Auditorium, and Pizza Express Live, Holborn, with her cello, Kije. Fri 17th:
Roll up, roll up it’s the night of our monthly Burlesque show, hosted by the award winning Trixie Blue. Come on down and prepare to be wowed with a sensual, titillating experience as the majestic performers take to the stage and showcase their talents. This month it’s The Burlesque Revue where a guest performer is invited to our bar to put on a special exhibition. Tickets for this show will cost just £3+bf and will go on sale at exactly 10:30am on Saturday 20th April so be ready – they sell out fast! Doors on the night open at 7pm and the show starts at 8pm. For the duration of the performance the public bar will be closed to those without tickets – we apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Fri 17th: (Upper Venue) Introducing an evening with Newcastle based pianist and singer/songwriter John Hopkinson. Join John for his long awaited solo show in his hometown of Newcastle, at the iconic Prohibition Cabaret Bar! John will take to the piano for a night of some of his best loved songs, the stories behind them, and some exciting new material as well. Who knows, there might even be a special guest or two? Expect favourites such as The High LineStill, Love Is Strange and many, many more! Tickets for this show cost just £5+bf and can be purchased here. Doors on the night open at 7pm with the show starting at 7:30pm


Sat 18th:
Come on down this Saturday night for some authentic roots music from The Rockin’ Turner Brothers. Brothers Stuart and Peter Turner perform early country, Western swing and a bit of 50s rockabilly, taking their influences from guitar pickers like  like Chet Atkins, Merle Travis, Jimmy Bryant, Grady Martin and Scotty Moore. Performing on upright double bass and semi acoustic electric guitar, these two always put on a show that’s not to be missed. Enjoy the gig free of charge, just come along and grab a space, and if you like what you hear (you will) you can show your appreciation by dropping some cash in the Jar on the Bar. Doors open at 6pm, live music from 8pm.


Sun 19th:
  Join us this Sunday evening for some live jazz in the form of much loved classics in fresh new arrangements as we welcome to our stage Ransom Van. Headed by local jazz guitar maestro Rich Herdman and accompanied by double bass legend Jude Murphy, the soulful, heartfelt vocals of Shayo and sweet, melodic harmonica playing from Ray Burns. This will be a top shelf, smooth performance and the perfect way to chill out with a drink on a Sunday night. Entry to the gig is completely free and we’ll have a Jar on the Bar out for cash donations. Doors open at 6pm with the live music from 7pm


Wed 22nd:
It’s our Weekly Pub Quiz! Join our quizmaster, Danny ‘Eyeballs’ for four rounds of brain exercise. Come top of the pile and win actual cash money! Fall just short and come in second to win a boozy treat, or failing all that, come rock bottom to earn delicious biscuits for the whole team. £1 entry per person, teams of up to 6 people, quiz starts at 8:30pm

Wed 22nd: (Upper Venue) It’s our weekly blues dance class, hosted by the fantastic Hoodoo Blues. Come alone or with a partner and learn from expert tutor Melissa Davy all about the art of blues dancing. Like the music itself, blues dancing is all about expression and takin’ it easy. All experience levels welcome and the class is drop in, drop out, so don’t ever worry if you’ve not been to one before, you will be well looked after. The class will begin at 7:30pm and run for approximately an hour. If it’s your first session then its free to take part and then thereafter it’s £7.50 per class (£5 for students/concessions)


Thu 23rd:
Live jazz standards and contemporary singer/songwriter material with local vocalist Kate O’Neill. Kate will be joined this Thursday evening by pianist Alan Hall and double bass legend Paul Grainger. This trio comprises some of the finest jazz music talent in the North East so this is bound to be a wonderful show. Entry for the gig will be completely free and we’ll get the ol’ Jar on the Bar out for cash donations. Doors on the night open at 6pm with the live music starting at 8pm

Thu 23rd: (Upper Venue) Tonight at Prohibition Cabaret Bar! Our upstairs venue is playing host to the monthly networking event Together I’m Possible. Each month the team at Together arrange for two guest speakers to come along and share their stories, past experiences and unique outlooks on life allowing audience members to see things from a new perspective and learn something – be it a new positive attitude, an answer to something specific they’ve been looking for or simply how to be a better human. Tickets are sold on a “pay as you feel” donation basis. The doors to the bar open at 6pm and upstairs is open from 6.30pm. The first speaker is on from 7pm.

24th: This Friday night we are delighted to be joined by classically trained singer Carmen Silk, a phenomenal local vocalist who will be treating us to an evening of Classics With Carmen. Delivering an intimate mix of jazz, swing, blues and showtunes, Carmen will take inspiration from artists such as Liza Minelli, Billie Holiday, Peggy Lee and much more. This show is completely free to enjoy and we’ll have the old Jar on the Bar out for your generous cash donations. Live music from 8pm.

Fri 24th: (Upper Venue) This Friday we’re delighted to bring you our monthly blues dance class and social with Hoodoo Blues. This is an open to all experience levels blues dancing class with a highly accomplished teacher. As with blues dancing itself the class is all about taking it easy, enjoying and expressing yourself and friendly socialising. After the class has finished the evening will transition smoothly into a blues dancing social event to put into practice what you’ve learnt. Doors open at 7pm with the class running from 7:30 to 8:30 and then the night continues until 12 midnight. Entry is £10 on the door for the class and the social or £5 for just the social.


Sat 25th:
This Saturday night we’re thrilled to host an eccentric jazz, funk and soul collaboration between some of the region’s best jazz talents, tentatively named Papa G’s Troves. Featuring Papa G and some of the region’s best jazz musicians performing on saxophone, trumpet, double bass, keys, drums and of course some soulful vocals. Expect some authentic jazz classics with a gospelly twinge. This gig will be completely free to enjoy and we’ll have the Jar on the Bar out for cash donations. Doors on the night open at 6pm with the live music from 8pm

Sun 26th: This Sunday evening we’re thrilled to welcome to our stage for the first time, local outfit Überloon, an alternative, compelling musical trio. Überloon’s songs take a tender look at the more unusual elements of human existence. Unearthing truths with the sometimes painful spade of humour and shovelling them into a glorious steaming heap of playful words and sounds. The music weaves the wonders of Brazilian/African rhythms with an eccentric European twist. Performed by a trio consisting of piano/accordion, (Simon Tarrant) Percussion (Keith Hill) and bass (Chad Langford). This gig will be completely free to enter and we’ll get the Jar on the Bar out for cash donations. Doors on the night open at 6pm with the live music starting at 7pm.

Live this evening at Prohibition Cabaret Bar our resident jazz pianist Merlin Roxby will be taking his place at the keys and treating our guests to a jazzy, saloon style performance. Playing vintage piano versions of well known songs, Merlin will provide the perfect backdrop to anyone enjoying a drink in our establishment this evening. This live entertainment is completely free to enjoy and we’ll have the jar on the bar out for any cash donations, all of which go straight to Merlin. Doors open at 6pm, live performance from 8pm.


Fri 31st:
Join us this Friday night for some retro vaudeville jazz with some funky arrangements and associated chaos with local outfit Redwell. Made up of a bevvy of local jazz talent that includes Rich Herdman (guitar), Alan Law (Keys), Jude Murphy (Double Bass and vocals) and Abbie Finn (Drums). Expect some top quality jazz from top quality performers. This will be a free gig and we’ll have the famous Jar on the Bar out for cash donations. Doors on the night open at 6pm with the live music from 8pm

Fri 31st: (Upper Venue) Come on down this Friday night for an exciting, alternative drag show: Sweet and Sal’s Fat Drag Slam. Starring local drag stars and artists Sally tm and Sweet Boy, this cultural extravaganza looks to promote a fresh, spicy new look in the drag scene featuring performers who all bring a creative new style. The show will feature a variety of acts from Sally and Sweet and guest performers Risqué, Vick the Prick and Chai Tea. More information on tickets and times to come.
